New Year, New Floor

Tick New Floor Off the New Year’s Resolution List!

Is your flooring looking tired? Are cracks beginning to show? This time of year provides the perfect opportunity to evaluate, upgrade and refurbish areas of your facility to make sure you can kick start the year the right way!

Thanks to methyl methacrylate (MMA) flooring, one resolution you can be sure to keep is guaranteeing a new floor that’s safe, hygienic, clean and visually stunning within a very quick turnaround!

Have you considered MMA flooring?

MMA systems are ideal for refurbishments, as the fast curing nature of this type of floor means that the finish can be ready to use in as little as one or two hours after application! This has made it a popular choice for retail environments which require speed, agility and a proactive approach.

And MMA systems don’t sacrifice speed for functionality or appearance, as its seamless, impervious finish is very hygienic, its monolithic nature is exceptionally hardy and there are a wide range of attractive colours, styles and visual effects to choose from.

Even when it comes to the end of an MMA floors life, an additional layer can be applied on top to refurbish easily and quickly. The additional layer chemically fuses to the existing floor, creating a monolithic system that will not delaminate.

This system can also be installed within a wide temperature range and in conditions as low as -30 °C, which makes it a great choice for unheated constructions sites or alternatively supermarkets using back-of-house cold stores, coolers and blast freezers to store food produce.

Rapid curing methyl methacrylate (MMA) flooring is available in both non-slip and smooth textures to meet changing slip resistant requirements. Where an excellent slip and skid-resistant profile is critical, coloured quartz aggregates can be broadcast over the MMA material to deliver a positively textured finish that will help to prevent slips and trips where an enhanced anti-slip profile is needed.

In commercial situations, a durable and anti-slip flooring system is essential. After all, day-to-day life involves customers bringing remnants of bad weather into stores underfoot as well as areas prone to frequent spillages. Both of these can result in the floor becoming slippery and increases the risk of slips and trips.

Perth’s GPO

MMA flooring was used at the iconic Government Post Office (GPO) in Perth, Western Australia. The heritage listed building needed to replace its aging tiles in its external covered entrance and walkway that had become a slip hazard to patrons and visitors. In order to solve the slippery tiles problem, the GPO installed an MMA flooring solution along with anti-slip aggregates due to it complying with the heritage approved design as well as being able to maintain a functional, decorative finish when faced with heavy foot traffic.

With the GPO being a landmark in the city, time was of the essence. Using the MMA flooring system allowed the project to be completed in just five nights thanks to its rapid cure.
