We headed to the Design, Architect, Specifiers Conference held in Midrand, Johannesburg on Thursday 23rd March to discuss sustainable construction topics with the industry’s experts and leaders.
Based on the theme ‘Urban Design: The New Frontier’, the conference placed huge emphasis on positive impact design, developing green buildings and the new Green Star Community rating tool.
Speakers discussed green buildings and the role of professionals ‘going green’ and a vigorous panel discussion explored new refurbishments and future green developments.
A definite trend towards architects taking over the general drafting of projects and then a design team continuing with the finishes and costings was highlighted. Lines are being blurred between the different disciplines and it is not uncommon for engineers to take on the QS role of costing projects.
The general interest in Flowcrete products was huge and a number of in-depth conversations were held around our Flowfresh range and its HACCP International certification. Similarly, younger architects expressed their interset in attending additional Flowcrete presentations in order to become more confident in the use of our products.
Emile Venter, Flowcrete South Africa’s Sales Director, had an opportunity to present to the delegates on how Flowcrete are consciously focusing on sustainability in all their manufacturing processes and spoke about a range of products that are less harmful to the environment.
The DAS conference was a successful one day event that brought architects, designers, property developers and landscape architects together from all over the world. We look forward to their next event.
