Bespoke Mezzanine Floor for Weylandts Furniture Store

The luxury furniture store Weylandts tasked Flowcrete South Africa with creating a floor for its new mezzanine extension that matched the existing finish across its ground floor area.

In 2009 the designer furniture outlet, based in the upmarket Umhlanga suburb of Kwazulu Natal, installed a stunning white surface using the epoxy flooring system Flowshield. This was ideal for conveying the clean, minimalistic style and ambience that Weylandts desired while ensuring that the finish would be easy to clean and would maintain a high performance surface for an extended period of time.

After eight years of exceptional service, Weylandts decided that a floor was required with the same aesthetics, functionality and longevity in its new mezzanine area and called on Flowcrete South Africa once again.

However, the upstairs level presented a challenge, as there was a coated imported shutter board that the resin system would have to be laid onto, which is a difficult platform for resin flooring to bond with! To overcome this issue, a different combination of products was specified for the 330m2 mezzanine area and a special plan was devised to prep the shutter boards.

First the boards were sanded to level them out and to remove the coating, which would provide a key for the primer. The gaps between the boards were then filled in using a combination of scatter aggregate and Ivory 320.

Once this was completed, Deckshield LXP primer was applied, followed by a coat of the polyurethane system Deckshield in white and was finished with two coats of Deckshield UV. Each layer was given a cure time of 12 hours before the next stage was laid down.

Now the luxury furniture store can treat customers to an even bigger site which has been carefully crafted to ensure that the floor flows seamlessly from one level to the next, maintaining the same clean identity and high-end retail experience at all times.
