Flowcrete UK has provided the home of ‘The Edinburgh Malt’ with a fresh floor finish to ensure that its iconic Scotch Single Malt Whisky is produced on a robust, long lasting and hygienic surface.
Diageo owned Glenkinchie Distillery in East Lothian needed to refurbish the quarry tile floor within key areas of its facility. The fact that the distillery, lower mash house, yeast room stair well and lower still house areas are all seen by tourists taking tours around the facility meant that the new floor finish would need to consistently present an unblemished and visually appealing image.
Approximately 350m2 of the decorative, seamless resin floor topping Flowfast Quartz Classic for Wet Areas was installed across these spaces to create a surface that would provide the necessary safety and hygiene advantages while simultaneously providing an attractive aesthetic.
As this system cures rapidly and could be installed on top of the existing floor it meant that the four-week refurbishment project could be carried out during a previously scheduled shut down period – avoiding any additional down time.
The new resin floor provides a variety of additional benefits for Glenkinchie Distillery, for example coving and drainage are incorporated into the light, urban grey finish and a cream walkway has been added into the floor plan to create a defined route for the tours.
