The Flowcrete South Africa team were delighted to be involved with the architecture day that was recently hosted by the construction industry news outlets Walls & Roofs in Africa and Floors in Africa.
The event, entitled ‘Sustainability: The Building & Beyond’, took place on the morning of the 9th October at Pretoria’s Atterbury Theatre and provided architects with a range of valuable insights into green building issues.
The South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) validated the day and it carried 0.4 CPD points in SACAP Category 1 and 2 CPD points from the IID, which emphasises the educational value of the day.
Presentations from a long list of award winning experts covered topics such as green building design software, energy regulations, sustainable business and interior rating tools. Flowcrete South Africa’s National Sales Manager, Emile Venter, rounded off the talks by speaking for ten minutes about how to specify seamless resin terrazzo flooring.
Mr Venter actually stepped in for Flowcrete South Africa’s Managing Director Craig Blitenthall at the eleventh hour, as unfortunately Mr Blitenthall lost his voice on the morning of the event!
Beginning at 7am, the architecture day meant a bright and early start for all involved, however this didn’t appear to put anyone off as the event proved highly popular, with approximately 150 architects in attendance.
Flowcrete South Africa’s table was a hive of activity throughout the morning, with lots of the participants expressing an interest in the specialist resin floors on display and asking questions about the practicalities, advantages and technicalities of installing these systems.
Overall the Flowcrete South Africa team were very happy with the day and would gladly participate again in the future, as it was a pleasure to meet, learn from and interact with so many architects and construction professionals all actively engaging in sustainable building topics.
