Almost all leisure venues in the Middle East are preparing for their quietest period of the year due to the combination of scorching summer temperatures and Ramadan.
This makes it the perfect time for flooring repairs and refurbishments, as Flowcrete’s fast cure MMA flooring solution Flowfast enables facilities managers to install floors that are fully trafficable only 90 minutes after application. A restaurant could even have a flooring facelift the same day as hosting an evening’s busy Iftar celebrations!
The following projects exemplify the sort of durable, high performance floor finish that can be achieved with minimal disruption to trade within public facing areas and the critical kitchen spaces of large-scale commercial venues.
Hilton JBR, The Beach
Hilton Hotels & Resorts required a fast curing flooring solution for its brand new DoubleTree hotel in Jumeirah Beach, Dubai that would encompass excellent durability and chemical resistant properties and be able to withstand the icy temperatures in its cold stores and freezers, as well as stand up to the fierce heat generated by its ovens.
With that in mind 1500m2 of Flowcrete’s hardwearing, decorative resin floor topping Flowfast Quartz was specified for installation throughout the entirety of the kitchen and in all service corridors.
Magic Planet
Flowcrete’s decorative screed system Flowfast Quartz was specified for a meticulously planned refurbishment of the Magic Planet play areas in all of the Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Group’s shopping malls.
The ability to formulate the system in bespoke colours to reflect the group’s corporate branding was a large factor in this project and it was crucial that the floor would be able to maintain a visually appealing surface for children to play on despite the impacts, spillages, wear and abrasions that it would inevitably be exposed to.
Hell’s Kitchen
The ability of Flowfast to create a floor that is both hygienic and aesthetically pleasing was emphasised when the popular global TV programme ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ utilised Flowcrete’s MMA flooring system to provide a firm platform underfoot as the drama unfolded for the television cameras. World-renowned chefs Gary Rhodes and Jean Christophe Novelli fought it out on floors designed to fit in with the ultra-modern surroundings of the London set.
The surface for each chef’s area was based on a light grey, with flecks of red in Gary’s zone and flecks of blue in Christophe’s, in order to highlight the team aspect of the contest.
Dubai International Airport
The Dubai International Airport, one of the Gulf region’s most high volume and operationally demanding sites, also chose a Flowfast floor for the cold storage areas of its kitchens.
With over 70 million international travellers passing through its terminals, reliability and functionality are crucial for all its building materials, as it cannot afford unscheduled downtime because of a failing floors that is unable to withstand the constant high level of activity.
