Flowcrete Asia recently hosted a spectacular lion dance performance to celebrate the beginning of the year of the Goat.
The lion dance has been part of Chinese culture for thousands of years and is performed on auspicious occasions such as weddings, store openings, and various celebrations and festivals.
A symbol of power, wisdom, and good fortune, the Lion is said to chase away evil spirits and bring happiness, longevity, and good luck. The Chinese New Year’s Celebration was performed in order to bring prosperity and good luck to the business for the upcoming year.
Two lion dancers kicked off the display with a performance in the Managing Director’s office before moving through the building, block by block. During the performance the lions were fed with oranges and a red envelope filled with money.
“In our culture, we believe when a lion comes into the office and dances, it brings good luck”, says Desmond Sin, Sales Director.
After the lions completed their rounds of the various departments in the office, it was time for ‘Picking the Green’, the most challenging part of the acrobatic, all action routine.
A red envelope filled with money was attached to a head of lettuce and hung high above the front door. The lions then consumed the lettuce and spat out the leaves, but not the money. This was a symbolic act of the lion’s blessing to Flowcrete Asia, and will ensure good fortune in the coming year.
At the end of the performance, Craig Brookes, Group Vice President & International Managing Director of Flowcrete Group and the management team of Flowcrete Asia received a scroll and a tray of oranges from the lions to signify good fortune and wealth.
In an exciting grand finale, streams of stunning fireworks were launched into the sky to celebrate the New Year in style.
