Slip resistance is a key design factor within all industries including food and beverage environments. From my 17 years of experience in the resin flooring industry I have learnt that one of the most crucial factors in obtaining and maintaining slip resistance is using the correct aggregate to gain the required level of slip resistance.
Many different materials can be used to create the textured, slip resistant surface of a floor but not all of them are created equally. For example sand will provide the required effect and may meet legislative codes at time of installation; however this product will wear much faster than more robust and durable minerals.
If your slip resistant aggregate is vulnerable to wear over a short space of time, you risk losing your level of slip resistance, exposing your company, your employees and your visitors to a potential flooring hazard.
