Discovery Park’s Car Park Discovers Deckshield

Flowcrete Hong Kong has been working hand-in-hand with Discovery Park, one of the island’s premier residential and retail developments, as it revitalises for the demands, expectations and opportunities of the 21st century.

It is important for the Tseun Wan based complex that its extensive infrastructure is fit for purpose as it evolves over the years. Its car parks are a key aspect of this, as they need to be able to cope with increasing levels of use while simultaneously portraying a pleasant and welcoming appearance.

Discovery Park refurbished the entire floor area of its seven-storey car park. Flowcrete Hong Kong supplied 26,000m2 of the flexible, polyurethane car park deck coating system Deckshield ID, which was installed by an approved applicator between May and July 2015.

A dark, slate grey colour was used for the road areas while the parking bays were coated with a lighter shade of grey. Both the parking bays and pedestrian walkways were demarcated with bright white Deckshield UV Linemarker, allowing users to easily distinguish between the different areas of the site.

Here at Flowcrete we know that the car park plays an important role for large-scale commercial venues such as Discovery Park, as it is often the first thing that a visitor or resident will see on arrival. Therefore it needs to be a safe, clean and visually pleasing environment in order to enhance the customer experience.

Deckshield ID has been designed to withstand the challenging conditions within large car park facilities, as the floor will have to withstand continuous traffic from heavy vehicles moving in tight circles as well as exposure to automotive fuels and oils. The slip resistant finish of a Deckshield ID floor is even able to reduce unpleasant tyre squeals, a significant advantage in residential areas as it helps to keep the environment quiet.

Flowcrete Hong Kong is excited to be looking forwards into the future with Discovery Park, helping the development to analyse the demands that will be placed on its floors over the years and identifying the flooring materials that will meet its long term needs.

The Discovery Park residential development opened 18 years ago but is continuously developing to ensure that it remains an up-to-date and contemporary living space. The whole estate encompasses a 250,000m2 area and includes residential flats, a shopping centre, clubhouse, swimming pool and golf putting green.
