Flowcrete Asia recently collaborated with the successful car dealership Kah Motor to renovate the failing floor of its Mitsubishi dedicated 3S Service Centre in Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.
The Kah Motor Co. Sdn. Bhd. facility in Jalan Ipoh is a pioneering car dealership that has offered 3S services under one roof for the past 40 years. Sites like this have been pivotal to Mitsubishi’s increasing motor vehicles sales in Malaysia, which last year were reported to be 14,184 units, the highest since 2005.
The automotive market in Malaysia has experienced steady growth in the last decade with many brands recognising Malaysia as a key market, further expanding their production capacity and also actively increasing sales by introducing new, innovative models.
The existing epoxy finish in the service centre was peeling off as a result of poor workmanship and Kah Motor knew that it had to act fast in order to protect both its own high quality image and Mitsubishi’s. With that in mind, Flowcrete Asia was called in to provide a new, stylish and robust flooring system.
In order to prepare the substrate 2,100m2 of Flowcrete’s damp proof underlayment Flowcem was applied at a 2mm thickness in order to combat the rising moisture vapour on site. Flowcem allows for the installation of moisture sensitive floor finishes onto concrete and cementitious screeds which have a moisture content of up to 100% Relative Humidity when a surface is dry.
The service centre also benefitted from the installation of 2,100m2 of the solvent free, durable, high performance epoxy resin coating system Flowcoat HS in a striking light blue shade to bring the facility back up to the high standards synonymous with the Mitsubishi name.
Flowcrete’s licensed applicator overcame various obstacles during installation, such as the careful removal of the previous epoxy flooring system and the delivery of equipment such as the car lift, before the flooring was finished.
Over the years Flowcrete Asia has also been involved in many other high profile automotive facility upgrades such as at UMW Toyota and Shanghai General Motors, where both clients were in dire need of the resin flooring specialist’s expertise.
A deteriorating floor made UMW Toyota move out of its old Kulai service centre and showroom, and so it decided to install Flowcrete Asia’s flooring solutions in its new premises to ensure a durable and long lasting surface.
Flowcrete Asia was chosen for this project thanks to their previous success at other UMW Toyota locations. Hardwearing and reliable systems were applied in the car service centre, delivery bays and reception area to ensure that the new buildings avoided unsightly and inefficient floors.
In order to upgrade facilities at the company’s main production plant, Shanghai GM chose to undertake a programme of refurbishment works, which included re-surfacing its 12,000m2 building.
After thorough considerations into a suitable flooring system, Shanghai GM selected a combination of Flowcrete China’s epoxy floor coating systems following the successful installation of a workable sample during the tendering stage.
