Flowcrete Middle East has been working on quite a few prestigious, large scale projects, including the largest shopping mall in the world!
The Dubai Mall claims the accolade of being the biggest mall ever built and has a string of impressive statistics to its names. It’s part of the 20 billion dollar Downtown Dubai complex, includes 635 retailers and attracts a staggering 750,000 visitors a week.
And to accommodate all those visitors it also has the most expansive car park in the Middle East and North Africa region, with over 14,000 spaces spread across three high-rise buildings (two of which reach 10 levels high). The view from the car park encapsulates the mall’s impressive status, as it overlooks the Burj Khalifa, one of the grandest feats of modern architecture.
A car park of this scale needs to be reliable – as any sort of failure could affect a lot of visitors. And when the initial floor coating began to deteriorate under the on-site conditions, Flowcrete Middle East’s Deckshield system was the solution chosen to replace it.
However over 500,000 square metres of the material was required and not only did the installation have to work around the fact that the mall was already up and running but it had to be finished for a very strict deadline! The Eid Al Fitr holiday was fast approaching and the car park needed to be fully operational by this date, as it is the busiest shopping period of the year.
The client wanted an impeccable finish in the car park, as this would be the first impression many visitors would have of the mall. Our Middle East office was more than up to task and successfully finished the installation within the deadline and to the high standards of the mall – so now the car park coating matches the luxury, high-end image of the location.
